Therapy
I can offer you a regular and consistent warm, friendly, non-judgemental, and compassionate space. I pride myself on the positive feedback I have received over the years from the many people that I have had the privilege of working with.
Coming to therapy and feeling able to talk openly with someone is a brave and courageous move – I am honoured to be on this journey with you.
Sessions are offered online – currently I have availability on evenings only, and this tends to be a Wednesday.
Style of Therapy
As a Clinical Psychologist, I am trained in a range of different therapies and can tailor your therapy specifically to you and your needs. I tend to work in an “integrative” way which means I will draw upon a range of evidence-based approaches and models. This means that your therapy will be tailored entirely to you.
Therapy is your space – your hour each week. You can use the space in the way that feels most useful for you – this might be about identifying and learning to work with emotions or “symptoms” in a different way. It could be about exploring links between the here and now, and your past. Maybe you want to think about relationships and repeating patterns you have noticed in yourself and with your relationships with other people. Perhaps you want to think about some difficult or painful experiences from your life. Or perhaps there are other experiences or issues you want to think about together in therapy.
I am here to listen, help you process, and help you understand yourself and others better.
Therapy Approaches
My main approaches tend to lie in three camps. I work integratively which means I can blend the approaches below and tailor your therapy to meet your needs.
1) a compassionate and “here-and-now” focus which draws from Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness-based Therapies.
2) a relational and trauma-informed approach, which draws from a Psychodynamic-informed, Mentalisation-based, and a trauma-based approach to help you make sense of your experiences, taking into account your early life experiences and relationships.
3) EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. A trauma-focused therapy designed to help you reprocess traumatic memories. In this therapy, I will invite you to recall the traumatic or difficult memory(ies) whilst engaging in bilateral stimulation (eg, eye movements, tapping). This can help to reduce the emotional intensity and distress linked with the memories.
I don’t work using a diagnostic approach and therefore I work with people who feel that my approaches and experience would best suit them. If you’re unsure or have questions, just get in touch.
What to Expect
Your therapy will be tailored to you.
What this means is that we will spend time together during the first 2-3 sessions discussing your hopes and goals for therapy, as well as thinking together about your life experiences so far and what sense you make of it. We will think together about how you want your life to be different, thinking about what changes you want to make going forward.
Therapy tends to be more effective when we have a momentum. Therapy sessions are offered on a weekly basis. Fortnightly sessions can be arranged but those slots are more limited in terms of availability.
Insurance
I am registered with and accept BUPA insurance payments. Currently I do not accept other insurers.
